This Technology Taxonomy Mapping visualisation allows users to select up to three taxonomic fields to display in descending order of granularity and use to generate a bespoke taxonomy tree, as a means to grouping all the catalogued technologies together in one logical grouping structure. Taxonomy filters are selected via the options dialog to the lefthand side of the screen.
Each new chart is interactive, allowing the user to hide and show individual nodes and branches at will to modify and refine the viewed mapping. Intermediate taxonomic nodes are styled and filled to highlight how many children nodes are contained/linked from it downstream at the next filter level.
Once the user has selected to view the Taxonomy visual via the Toot’s main landing page, they are presented with a static example map image of what they can expect to view and use on the visualisation. Use the filter options dialog to the top-let of the window to [de]select up to three taxonomic filters to define the tree level hierarchy generated upon submitting their selection.
Initial defined taxonomy tree view
Once the user submits their selected filters, a new taxonomy tree is generated inits fully-expanded form. The displayed taxonomic horizons are displayed left to right, in the order selected by the user via the options dialog (note the parenthesised numbers on the three topmost options, and how this order translate to the chart)
Users may then update the originally defined taxonomy tree to display only specific taxonomy nodes, tree branches and information. This is achieved by clicking on individual pink-filled tree nodes to contract and expand their ‘lower’ branches of the tree structure. Branches will collapse to/expand from the selected node.
A more severe updated defined taxonomy tree view, to display only a reduced number of specific taxonomy nodes, tree branches and information.
The entire taxonomy tree is built from the origin ‘Taxonomy’ node, positioned to the left of the screen. User-defined taxonomy tree’s origin node is at highest level
