In the relatively short amount of time I have had to work with James I have appreciated his responsiveness and enthusiasm for this specific piece of work. James obviously has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to data visualizations and was able to steer early on around best practices and what kind of chart we should use for the data visualization question I had for him so as to support this application we are building in collaboration with the World Economic Forum. He was then able to quickly iterate based on those initial thoughts, within just a few days and has already provided substantive materials with ideas and suggestions on how to improve these further. James’ work is consistently of high quality, original and thoughtful. His work on the UI for Horizon Scanner exceeded our expectations as it was a difficult component - the concept was complex so being able to successfully capture this in the application design (prototype) and improving further made a significant difference. He kept design details in mind throughout from selection/uniformity of colours, use of symbols, display of timeline navigation, feature placement and then enabling this to successfully scale.
We received feedback from our internal UKI technology team who were impressed with his D3 and front end application work sharing with us that this must have taken considerable effort/dedication to get to the level he achieved within the timescales. We were able to confidently share the application with customers at an early stage and seek important feedback on the concept which was easier than trying to explain via concept documents. Alongside this we could show to senior stakeholders because the design was great and we knew it would help us get buy-in.
His design aesthetic and knowledge of interfaces was evident in his work but also in discussions and as such we looked to James for guidance and leadership but he’d also built our confidence in his decision making with many of the improvements he suggested we are planning to keep in final version. We looked to James for consultation on the cases concept and he provided detailed and well thought out feedback explaining his rationale behind suggested improvements. We have adopted into the wireframes. We hope to secure further time from him on this project as we are potentially building globally and his expertise on UX/design will be a great asset.

THOMSON REUTERS LONDON RISK SUMMIT 2018Earlier this year I had the pleasure of working with James whilst preparing for the Thomson Reuters Risk Summit in London. To provide context, this event is the largest proprietary event that we organise and manage in Europe, and attracted over 600 customers. James played a vital role in bringing together content (in the form of data visualisations of financial crime, human trafficking, and bribery and corruption) which was used to brand the venue, build demonstration stands to articulate the cost of financial crime, and the basis of discussion within the sessions. Senior stakeholders, including David Craig (President of F&R) were at the event, and provided anecdotal feedback about the quality of the data visualisations, as did customers (over 100 customers who completed the post event survey ranked the quality of branding and data visualisations as ‘exceptional’).
In summary, James was enthusiastic, collaborative and proactive. His time management and communication skills were great, the content was rich and valuable, and I look forward to hopefully working together in the future.

He was able to grasp the requirements and produce the content with minimum follow ups and turned around the end product within a week, which was vital in delivering the report which was within a strict timeline considering the sensitivity of the topic which the report was capturing.
The infographic that was generated has been the front piece that was used for all Social Media circulations and promoting the article on Thomson Reuters feeds. The end product certainly met our team's expectations and excerpts of the same were used across the report to provide a visual impact on the content that were being explained. It was quite easy to communicate and relay the information that was needed for producing the content and we shall definitely try to work together again on our future reports.
